About the NAPS Apprenticeship Program
Apprenticeship is a sort of training that is given to workers to help them improve their abilities. This training will take place at the workplace, employing the facilities that are already in place. Basic training and on-the-job training are provided as part of the apprenticeship program. The Apprenticeship Act, of 1961 was enacted by the Indian government to promote apprenticeship training. This act’s implementation is the responsibility of the Ministry of skill development and Entrepreneurship. With the support of apprenticeship training and the training facilities available in establishments, efficient and skilled people would grow. There is no additional cost to set up training infrastructure with the help of this program. Anyone who has completed an apprenticeship can readily adapt to the industrial environment.

The government is emphasizing apprenticeship training in order to promote employment in the country. The administration is launching a variety of measures to achieve this goal. The Indian government started a national apprenticeship promotion scheme in 2016. Apprenticeship training is sponsored by the government through this system so that an individual can become trained in a certain job. The union budget for the years 2021-22 was announced by our country’s finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, on February 1, 2021.
- The government has suggested amending the apprenticeship statute in the current budget. So that youth apprenticeship possibilities can be expanded. To boost apprenticeship training, the government has set aside Rs 3000 crores.
- Aside from that, the government has formed a cooperation with the UAE in order to improve employee skills, qualifications, assessments, and certifications. Certified workers will be employed as a result of this collaboration.
- In order to provide training to employees, the government has also launched a collaborative training inter-training program between India and Japan. This effort will be expanded to include a larger number of countries.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme Training Types
Basic training: Basic training is delivered to individuals who have never received any type of training prior to beginning on-the-job training. The government shares the cost of basic training up to Rs 7500 under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, allowing training to be promoted.
On-the-job training: often known as practical training, is a type of training that is offered in workplaces. The establishment is usually providing it. On-the-job training gives the applicant real experience so that he or she can perform their job flawlessly. The government also contributes to the cost of on-the-job training up to a specific amount in order to promote training.
Apprentice Act, 1961
Employers must provide apprenticeship training in specified and optional trades under the apprentice’s legislation. In December 2014, the Apprentices Act of 1961 was revised. This act has now become more appealing. One of the most significant changes in this act is the replacement of the antiquated system of trade and unit-based restrictions. The 2.5 percent band is extended to 10% of the total workforce under this statute. Optional trades are also made available. Stringent clauses such as imprisonment and allowing industries to outsource basic training have been deleted as a result of the modification.
