WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme 2024
The state administration has been attempting to contact as many farmers as possible since the scheme’s launch to preserve the supply of rice in the Public Distribution System. To speed up the procurement process, the government wants to enroll as many farmers as possible in this program. The West Bengali government has also said that it will offer free rice to the state’s almost 10 crore residents through ration stores. The relevant institution enrolls about 13 lakh farmers in the West Bengal Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme. It is estimated that 7200000 paddy farmers will sign up for the program.
The state government sets a goal each year to buy from farmers a certain amount of crops for PDS. Every year, the government sets an MSP for fair average quality of paddy, and based on that, farmers plant their crops for the Kharif season. Additionally, the government will purchase from each farmer about 45 quintals of paddy. The responsible authorities have not yet set the price for the paddy. Under the terms of this plan, the PDS will get an uninterrupted supply of rice. The plan will go into effect in December.

Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme Objectives
Support for the West Bengal state’s farmers would be the primary goal achieved through this program. All farmers’ prices have been adversely impacted by the low demand for paddy, and this season’s paddy prices are also declining. Additionally, the government declared a minimum support price (MSP), yet prices appear to be declining below the MSP. The amount of paddy that must be purchased from each farmer will also be subject to a ceiling price set by the West Bengal government. The farmers will undoubtedly benefit in the long term and earn more money thanks to this. Many farmers will sign up for the program to benefit from a minimal price.
