Pudhumai Penn Scheme 2024
For the benefit of economically weaker families who are unable to send their girl children to colleges due to financial constraints, the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance scheme was transformed into the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance scheme, which is currently implemented as the “Pudhumai Penn scheme“. This scheme is a “revolutionary scheme” that will “prove ground-breaking and revolutionary in the times to come.” Under this scheme, Girls who attended state government schools from Class V through Class XII would receive a monthly stipend of Rs1,000 under the Pudhumai Penn program until they got their diploma or graduation complete. The scheme is a great effort on the part of the Tamil Nadu government to encourage women in their higher education.
Pudhumai Penn Scheme 2nd Phase Launched
1099 girls who are pursuing a college education in government institutes in the Coimbatore district have been brought under pudhumai penn scheme. The beneficiaries will get Rs 1000 financial assistance. The main objective of the scheme is to provide financial support to the girl’s students who came from financial disadvantages families to motivate them to further education. On Wednesday 8 February 2024, an event was held in Tiruvallur district in which Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin inaugurated the second phase of the scheme. Subsequently, in an event organized at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University district collector Kranti Kumar Pati distributed the assistant to 88 students.

The main aim of launching the Pudhumai Penn Scheme is to promote quality education for students. This scheme will encourage the girl students to pursue their higher education as most of the girl students leave their studies after the 12th or 10th. Under this scheme, providing Rs1,000 in monthly aid to female students is considered a responsibility rather than a gift. Additionally, 25 Municipal Corporation-run schools would be upgraded to Schools of Excellence in the first phase for 171 crores. Classrooms in these Schools of Excellence would be modernized and art, literature, music, dance, and sports among others would be promoted among students. In the next four years, one classroom would be set up in every school in Tamil Nadu and converted into a ‘Smart Classroom for ₹150 crores.

There are various benefits of the Puthumai Penn Scheme. This scheme will shorten the gap in the state’s literacy ratio between men and women. The program would give girls who attended government schools from Classes 6 through 12 Rs 1000 each month until they finished their undergraduate degree, ITI course, or diploma. This strategy will contribute to faster educational development and increase the number of educated women in society. Additionally, it will aid in lowering the number of child marriages, which are common in several regions of the state. The state government hopes to strengthen and increase the independence of women via this program. Six lakh girls in the state who are eligible to enroll in higher education courses would be helped by the Puthumai Penn Scheme. The government included 698 crores in the budget year 2022–2023 to ensure the scheme’s smooth operation.
