West Bengal Chaa Sundari Scheme 2024
The State’s Chief Minister, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, is about to give houses to the workers in the tea gardens under the Chaa Sundari Plan. The plan calls for building homes for more than 750 labor families in North Bengal. The employees who are currently employed in the 370 gardens that make up the tea plantation are covered by the Chaa Sundari Scheme. The program guarantees all of these labor families a food allotment based on subsidies. The government is also requesting a review of these laborers’ salaries because they all make the federal minimum wage. As a result, the initiative is set up to help women and the Scheduled Tribe groups of these areas as much as possible.
On September 17, 2020, Mr. Moloy Ghatak, the minister of the West Bengal Department of Labour, first unveiled the plan. Following that, the West Bengal Finance Minister, Mr. Amit Mitra, introduced the program in the state budget for 2020-21. A corpus of Rs. 500 crores has been designated for the plan, taking into account the economic situation of these regions.

The state government would increase the daily wage for tea workers from the previous Rs. 67 to Rs. 176. Likely, the compensation of tea workers will soon be reevaluated. The BJP is demanding the lowest salary in West Bengal, but in the neighboring Assam state, where they are in power, no such payment has yet been established. According to TMC sources, the state government led by Mamata Banerjee is doing a lot to advance tea laborers. The task of encouraging the reopening of 3 closed tea homes in the Dooars has been given to the WB state administration. The Madhu, Bundapani, and Surendranagar tea estates that have been abandoned in recent years will be returned, according to the Fund department.
