Green Tamil Nadu Mission:- At the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced the launch of the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, a flagship program of the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company, a new special purpose vehicle created by the state government. He said the initiative aims to increase the state’s tree and forest cover from 23.69 to 33.0% over ten years. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday encouraged the public to support the government’s efforts in expanding forest cover and safeguarding nature for future generations in a passionate appeal to meet the challenges of climate change collaboratively. A huge tree planting initiative will be undertaken to plant a variety of indigenous trees for the next 10 years with the engagement of all sectors, public and private organizations, and people. 8, 804,25 saplings will be planted around the district as part of the Green Tamil Nadu Mission during the current fiscal year 2022–2023.

The private charities and private nurseries had raised 2.80 crore saplings. To track seedling planting and survival rates, 2.80 billion saplings have been grown for the purpose, and information on every planting site is gathered together with geo-tagged data. This Mission’s objective is to raise the State’s current 23.8% green cover to 33%. Over the following ten years, the government plans to plant 265 crore saplings. According to the India State of Forest Report 2021, Salem district’s forest cover would rise to 33% from its current 28.09%. The saplings will be planted in rural and urban locations, as well as in businesses, schools, and temple sites. According to Mr. Karmegam, there are 25 locations where seedlings are stored ready for planting 8.80 lakh trees around the district.

  • To quickly mitigate the climate change-related natural dangers, more trees will be planted
  • Ten indigenous species totaling about 500 seedlings were planted. At the Vandalur Zoo’s parking lot, another 1,000 will be planted.
  • The Green Movement in Tamil Nadu aims to reach 12,000 square kilometers over the next ten years.
  • In 7–10 days after the order is placed, seedlings would be supplied to the family.
  • Outside advisors have been hired to keep an eye on the seedlings.
