The FAME II program has been renewed for another two years by the government. This scheme will now be in effect until March 31, 2024. Previously, this program ran from January 1, 2019, through March 31, 2022. This program will also provide the essential charging infrastructure for electric automobiles. The Fame India plan was established with the goal of addressing environmental pollution and petroleum depletion. The government has also enhanced the subsidy incentives under this program from Rs 10000 per kWh to Rs 15000 per kWh.

With 17438 electric vehicles sold, Karnataka leads the way, followed by Tamil Nadu with 11902, Maharashtra with 8814, Uttar Pradesh with 5670, and Delhi with 5632. From 2019 to March 31, 2022, Rs 10,000 crore has been set up for the implementation of the Fame India scheme. A total of Rs 818 crore has been invested thus far. For the next three years, the remaining funds have been allocated into three phases: Rs 1839 crores in 2021-22, Rs 3775 crore in 2022-23, and Rs 3514 crore in 2023-24.

Objective Of Fame India 2023

On April 1, 2015, the central government’s concerned authorities launched the scheme. This programme was created to encourage manufacturers to make more electric vehicles in the country. Electric buses will be widely used, according to the government, to minimise pollution and other problems. The scheme’s second phase has now begun. The government is also expected to spend around 10,000 crores on this scheme in the coming years of 2021 and 2022. To reduce pollution, large metropolitan centres will have a large number of electric buses.

350 New Charging Stations Installed

The government of India has launched the Fame India scheme in order to promote electric vehicles in the country. A subsidy is granted for the purchase of new electric vehicles under this program. Under the second phase of the Fame India scheme, the government has installed 350 new charging stations. Cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Bangalore have these stations. This data was presented in Parliament. On July 20, 2021, Minister of State for Heavy Industry Affairs Krishan Pal Gujar revealed that the first phase of this project had approved infrastructure for 520 charging stations at a cost of Rs.43.4 crores.

Rs.600 Crore Subsidy Provided for Two-wheelers

Under the second phase of the Fame India scheme, a total of 2877 charging stations are being built in 68 cities across the country. The cost of constructing these 2877 charging stations is estimated to be around Rs 500 crores. By 9 July 2021, 3,61,000 vehicles had been purchased under the scheme, for which the government had offered a subsidy of 600 crores. Electric two-wheeler subsidies have been enhanced from 10,000 KWH to Rs.15,000 KWH, resulting in price reductions for existing electric vehicles. The second phase of this plan will receive budgetary support of Rs.10,000 crore. As of 30 June 2021, this scheme had offered a subsidy of Rs.492 crore to 862 electric buses.
